meet chef Juliana

Born and raised on the East End of Long Island, Chef Juliana White was lucky enough to grow up tasting and trying arguably some of the best produce and seafood on the East Coast. As long as she can remember, inspired by her immediate surroundings and travels around the world, she has been curious about food and admired the way a great meal brings people together.

This passion led her to receive a master’s degree in Management with a focus on food and environmental justice at The New School, and to work for a NYC-based non-profit organization Wellness in the Schools to ensure public schools had access to nutritious food. Realizing her passion for working with food in a more hands-on capacity, she then graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in New York City. Thereafter, she worked at some of the city’s most beloved restaurants from Chef Missy Robbins’ award-winning Lilia, to celebrated neighborhood restaurants like Cervos on the Lower East Side and Hart’s in Brooklyn. This experience instilled in her how food can build a family and create a real sense of community even in a city as large as New York.

Upon moving back to the East End, she worked as a recipe developer at Round Swamp Farm - one of the area’s most adored farm stands - creating dishes using excess produce grown at the on-site farm. Throughout these experiences, she continued to serve clients on the East End and New York City with in-home chef services from weekly meal prep, to cocktail parties and private dinners, leading her to start her own service, Plate in Progress.
